Bar Saracen is sadly closing its doors on Saturday, January 30.
Owner Joseph Abboud announced the news via Instagram and said "the difficult decision to close Bar Saracen comes after what has been an incredibly tumultuous year for the industry, and indeed for the community as a whole. The effect that the pandemic has had on trade in our pocket of the Melbourne CBD especially, with the loss of international guests, city workers and passing foot-traffic, leaves us in a precarious financial situation."
The venue is helmed by head chef Tom Sarafian and is renowned for Sarafian's silky spanner crab and prawn hummus, and for loading you to the brim with arak, an anise-flavoured spirit. It will very much be missed, but Sarafian is set to move onto a residency at Little Andorra from February 3.
There he will present some of his signature dishes including the hummus, along with some exciting new mezze.
Sarafian Sundays will also continue in the form of long Sunday lunches in Little Andorra’s courtyard and outdoor dining space, with the same good times, music, wine and sunshine (Melbourne weather dependent) promised.
Stay tuned for further updates via Little Andorra, or have a final drink at Bar Saracen before January 30.
