The City of Melbourne is set to extend its outdoor dining program. What does this mean? Outdoor dining in Melbourne's inner suburbs is here to stay until June 30.
Those little astroturfed parklets you've seen outside your favourite venues are included in the three-month extension, along with outdoor dining in a bid to assist hospitality businesses as it-who-shall-not-be-named lurks around.
Nearly 1,500 permits were issued for outdoor dining across the municipality and over 200 outdoor dining parklets were constructed by the City of Melbourne, and the extension will see it invest a further $2.2 million into the program.
150 businesses with outdoor dining parklets were surveyed in January, with results indicating that outdoor dining parklets had helped 81 per cent of businesses to reopen and 76 per cent to maintain seating capacity.
