Is it just us, or has Easter crept up on you too? The last time we took a breath it was Labour Day, but now Easter is here with another long weekend that we did not see coming. But just because it's a short week does not mean there isn't a lot of fun to be had here in Melbourne before the weekend is here. Here are our picks of fun things to do this week.
See and Do
Malthouse Theatre's hotly anticipated immersive show Because the Night opens this week, and if you were smart enough to book tickets well in advance, it's finally time to enjoy the show. It's loosely based on Hamlet, and audience members follow the cast around in a free-form custom-built set, engaging with whatever interests them. If you haven't booked tickets yet, well, get on it.
Two words for you: Lego dinosaurs. Whether you're a massive fan of Lego, you got hooked on Lego Masters or you're a huge dinosaur fan and have a shrine to Jeff Goldblum and the original Jurassic Park movies, this new exhibition might be for you. Jurassic World by Brickman is the biggest Lego exhibition ever to come to Australia, and fans of both dinos and Legos should hop in an open-top Jeep post-haste.
Feel like a laugh? It's our favourite time of year, when comedians take over the city for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Book tickets in advance if you have your heart set on a certain show, or take your chances on a flyer someone hands you at Town Hall.
Eat and Drink
Have you visited Melbourne food truck festival Street Eatz yet? You better motor over, because the festival ends on April 5. You can expect to find a rotation of food trucks (think everything from tacos to pizza), two bars, DJs, games and live entertainment. Food can be purchased directly from the food trucks, and drinks can be ordered via a QR code and delivered to your table so you don’t have to line up. This year there’s also a bottomless booze package for $69 per person that gets you access to two hours of unlimited cocktails, vodka spritzers, wine, beer and cider. There are two package sessions per evening every Wednesday and Thursday.
Another summery event coming to an end is Embla's rooftop bar and cinema. The wine bar and restaurant is showing European classics like Chocolat, Before Midnight and The Big Blue this week, and if movies aren't your thing, you can still enjoy a drink on the rooftop before 8pm.
