The best things to do this weekend in Melbourne: February 26-28

The weather this weekend is looking fab, with a forecast for 21ºC on Saturday and 28ºC on Sunday, so there’s time for both inside and outside activities. Luckily, there’s plenty on in Melbourne to fill your Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Get amongst it.

Melbourne Street Eatz

Melbourne Street Eatz has brought its food truck festival back to South Wharf. Now running in its fifth year, the festival features a rotation of food trucks (think everything from tacos to pizza), two bars, DJs, games and live entertainment. This year there’s also a bottomless booze package for $69 per person that gets you access to two hours of unlimited cocktails, vodka spritzers, wine, beer and cider. Entry to the event is free. More info here.

Embla Rooftop

This pop-up offers a Mediterranean-influenced menu that we know and love from the team at Embla with a selection of cocktails, beers and more than 50 different wines at the bar. But as soon as the sun sets, the rooftop bar transforms into a rooftop cinema. Outdoor deck chairs and parasols point towards the five-metre wide projection screen and classic films come to life thanks to a week-by-week themed list of movies curated by District Agency. Think high school week (Pretty In Pink, Juno), music week (Wayne’s World 2, Whiplash) and driving week (Baby Driver, Mad Max), to name a few. For more information, click here.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Hogwarts returns to Melbourne this week! After a huge closure over 2020, the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play reopens at the Princess Theatre. This six-hour, two-part adventure is the eighth chapter of JK Rowling’s saga, and it’s epic – to say the least. Tickets start at just $40, and you can read our spoiler-free review here

Rone in Geelong

You might not know that street artist Rone – real name Tyrone Wright – is from Geelong, but he is, and he’s returned home for his first survey exhibition. Rone in Geelong presents a comprehensive collection of work spanning his career, from early stencils to photographs that show how he goes about transforming deserted buildings (you can also see one of these spaces recreated in 3D). Check out the info here.
