The beautiful Ovolo Laneways hotel on Little Bourke Street is one of our favourite hotels in Melbourne’s CBD, so we were pretty stoked to hear Ovolo is expanding southside.
The new Ovolo South Yarra is only a few weeks away from opening its doors and we’ve already heard rumblings about the food offering. Lona Misa will be a vegan-friendly bar and kitchen helmed by renowned chef and owner of vegan hotspots Smith & Daughters and Smith & Deli, Shannon Martinez, as well as chef and owner of sunlit, French-inspired haunt Kirk’s Wine Bar and the now-closed French Saloon, Ian Curley. (You can read a little more about Lona Misa here.)
The hotel itself will be located on the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street, so right in the thick of all the action. Ovolo South Yarra will have 123 rooms, offering a range of different styles and sizes. There’s micro-hotel rooms great for laying your head after a busy day out in the city, but also elaborate Rockstar Suites that exude a kind of retro glamour you’d associate with 1960s Palm Springs (and maybe even a little like American hotel chain Ace Hotel).
As well as the colourful design, the hotel is also decked out with modern art installations by both local and international artists like Mr Brainwash, Punk Me Tender and Aussie artist Ben Tankard.
Ovolo hotels are known for the perks (the free mini bar at Ovolo Laneways is what we always remember) and Ovolo South Yarra will be no different. If you book direct with the hotel, guests will receive a free sundowner drink, midnight treats in the mini bar, 24-hour gym access, self-service laundry and complimentary breakfast.
Keen for that staycation? Ovolo South Yarra is now open to book stays from April 8, 2021. Rooms start at $279 per night. Here’s where to book.
